Motherwell Steel
10'x6'
Inspired by many trips on the West Coast Main Line to Glasgow, this layout tries to capture some of the railway action around Motherwell. Dalzell's Steel Mill, with a distinctive tower, can be used as the main focal point, with industrial shunters (such as Hornby's Sentinel) dragging steel wagons to and from the factory. The station in the top left of the plan has been adapted to have two terminating platforms - in real life these running lines continue on, past the engineers' yard that is now sadly overgrown. Similar compromises have been made to incorporate a depot facility in the top right corner, but both features should provide enough operational interest to sustain this busy plan. A central operating well is essential for being able to reach all corners of the layout.
