Kyle of Lochalsh
6'x6'
After visiting when I was 9 I've never forgotten Kyle of Lochalsh. The bottom part of the board imitates the island platform, with goods sidings and dockside cranes all together. A run round loop allows steam or diesel traction to arrive and depart with 2 coaches, and this type of short train doesn't look too out of place on a Highland layout. The basic station plan could also be incorporated into any number of board shapes or sizes. In this configuration, the empty space could easily be trimmed to allow easy access, and the sidings at the top of the board could be expanded to facilitate more storage space. There are some great photos of the line here https://www.flickr.com/photos/david_christie/albums/72157651195089411/
